With Dr Deborah Middleton (Huddersfield), Dr Maria Kapsali (Leeds) and Dr Bernadette Cronin (Cork)
Saturday 22nd October 2016, 0915 — 1715
There are a few places still available for this one-day event in which Bernadette Cronin, Maria Kapsali, and Deborah Middleton will each share their research into Yoga and its relationship with performance. The day will involve short positions statements, a workshop led by each practitioner, and time for sharing and discussion (and resting).

Dr Bernadette Cronin (DTS, University College Cork, Ireland) teaches theatre practice, and theories and practices of adaptation. She completed her yoga instructor training in traditional Ashtanga yoga in Goa, India in 2015. She is also an accredited Linklater Voice Teacher. She performs with Gaitkrash Theatre Company, of which she is a founder member, whose experimental performance work takes place at the intersection between theatre, sound art and fine art. In her teaching and performance work she draws on yoga to train active relaxation, focus and concentration, muscular-skeletal alignment, flexibility, stamina and energy and breath awareness. The resulting alert receptivity and awareness of the flow of energy between the performer’s bodymind and the surrounding bodies, objects and space, opens up greater possibility for choice to the performer in the creative process. She has been directed by Phillip Zarrilli of the Llanarth Group in the Beckett Project in Ireland (Footfalls and Play), in Beckett at the Factory (site-specific montage with Play), and more recently in an international collaboration – Wales/Korea/Ireland/Singapore – Playing the Maids, which toured in Wales in 2015. She is currently working on a devised piece with Gaitkrash entitled Kafka is afraid of Mice.

Her research on yoga in performance and performer training practices has also appeared in a number of journals, including Theatre Dance and Performance Training, Stanislavski Studies, and Journal of Dance and Somatic Practices. She is a co-convenor of the TaPRA Performer Training Working Group and co-editor of the Routledge series Perspectives on Performer Training. She is currently working on a monograph entitled New Technologies in Performer Training Practices, to be published by Routledge.
